Why the candidate's observation
Not only selection, but above all the identification of talents and an assessment of the compatibility between the vision of the Collegio and that of the family.
What does the observation involve?
The activities with the children consist in tasks guided by a PowerPoint including narration, listening and comprehension, educational games in Italian and English (with native English and Italian speaking teachers), activities with Lego bricks, drawing with colored pencils.
While the children are busy with the teachers, the parents will fill out an information questionnaire
The level of English required
In order to best personalize the students’ education, the linguistic requirements are different. For the Cambridge sections, the score achieved will serve to establish the level of English language in order, if necessary, to build a recovery program or linguistic certification with the College. In the intercultural sections the minimum level required is A2.
The grading system
At the end of the observation process, the Rector of the College authorizes enrollment in primary school.
FOR FIRST CLASSES – INTERCULTURAL SECTION:
The list below describes the criteria in a combined manner.
- Coming from an international/bilingual nursery school (complete three-year path);
- Or the presence of one of the two native English-speaking parents in the family;
- Or mono-English speaking parents with child understanding the Italian language.
FOR INTERMEDIATE CLASSES:
Candidates will be asked to take a test covering three areas: logical-mathematics, Italian linguistic area, English linguistic area (valued in cents). The test will be calibrated to last approximately one hour. Below are the skills required:
- Italian linguistic area: the test will verify the spelling, grammatical analysis and text comprehension skills;
- logical-mathematical area: the test will verify calculus and geometric skills in relation to the programs carried out in primary school;
- English language area: skills in the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) will be assessed.
For the intercultural sections:
A score of 80/100 is required in each of the three areas (Italian, mathematics, written and oral English)
For the Cambridge sections (11 hours in English)
Non-binding observations relating to the Italian and English logical-mathematical and linguistic areas. In the event of insufficient test, a recovery program to be paid by the family and agreed upon during the interview will be recommended.
The psycho-aptitude tests and the Personal statement
During the morning test, the candidate is also administered a battery of psycho-aptitude tests. These tests aim to gather information on the interests, skills, potential and aptitudes of each individual candidate. This profile will be useful, in the event of a positive acceptance of the admission application, when forming class groups.
For intermediate classes, the candidate will be required to write a short Personal Statement. This is a short presentation, written by the child, describing his/her school career, hobbies, and any other interests.
After the test
How are the results communicated?
Through a meeting on the Teams platform set by the Collegio with the Admission Office and the Dean, the results of the appraisal are returned, and in the event of acceptance of the application, you will be notified of the possibility of enrolling in the College’s primary school in the Cambridge section or in the Intercultural section. The tests carried out will be visible during the interview and cannot be duplicated or forwarded to the family. No telephone information will be given.
What can be done if you fail the tests?
Candidates who have received an insufficient score in one or more disciplines will be able to repeat each individual test only once at a time interval to be agreed with the Admission Office with which the learning objectives will be agreed.
It is also possible to enroll in the standard sections if during the test phase an adequate score for the intercultural sections in English was not achieved, without prejudice to the different evaluations that emerged during the restorative interview.
